The highest legal ball weight is 16 lbs, and that is the highest weight of a bowling ball that is made. It all depends on your size/age/other factors. If you're worried about spraining your arm muscles, if you're under the age of 14, I would suggest starting with a 12 pound ball. If you are over 14, you might want to start with a 14 lb ball and go up from there.

I have used a 16 pound ball since I was 18 years old. I have bowled as many as 30 games with that 16 pound ball in a day. I hurt the next day, but I didn't sprain anything.

I use a 14 lb. ball. Using a heavier ball would be difficult.
