I applied for a job today and one of the forms was a consent to a drug test. It said that if any drugs were found it would keep me from being hired. I've had both morphine and codeine (Tylenol 3) recently. The morphine was at the hospital about two months ago (3 separate doses). The Tylenol 3 was doctor prescribed upon my release and was last taken a couple of weeks ago. Will these show up on a u/a and will they keep me from getting hired? Should I say something to the person at the clinic before taking the test?

IV Morphine has a half life of 2 hours and about 4 if injected in the muscle or taken as a pill( as long as it isn't the time released morphine pills) and codiene has a half life of 4 hours, so it will not show up on your test. T3 will show up on a drug test for 2-3 days after taking it. If T3 is prescribed and shows up, you just have to let them confirm it with your doctor and they'll count it as a negitive test. You will pass your ua.

If the meds were taken by a doctors order, even if they did show up there wouldn't be a problem since you had a reason. They look for things like THC, cocaine etc. If it worries you go ahead and tell them and the reasons, but it's not likely they will show on the test this much later.

As an employer, I would recommend that you alert the perspective employer about the situation thoroughly and offer to provide doctor's notes or prescriptions if desired to confirm your story. So many applicants have history that is discouraging that most employers will be gun-shy, but if you provide explanations they will be understanding.

Your urine should be clean by now. However I would take the pills with the prescription in to show that you have them. You should inform the nurse doing the test and she can determine if they would be in your system, and write it down if your test comes up hot.

Those will probably not show up since you haven't had them recently and you can certainly tell your employer about them if you think you need to. You have nothing to hide.
