Do you belive re-instating the draft would benifit our teenagers (male and female) to lead a more diciplined and productive life in the future. It seems there is little or no respect exibited from the youth of today. To prove my point, read the responses.

Most countries have a mandatory service as a civil servant, whether it be in the military, police, fire department. But in return I believe that once your obligation is fulfilled that one should receive some sort of compensation like reduced college tuition or job preference points for honorable service in there civil service of choice.

I've asked this question of my Air Force friends before, so I'll paraphrase their answer. They mentioned that a draft would force people to serve in the military who they don't want to be there. The result is that the people who don't want to be there tend to not work as hard and pull down the performance of the unit as a whole. All of the people I asked said it makes their jobs more dangerous when unwilling participants accompany them. It boiled down to the statement that a draft would not be beneficial and might put other soldiers at risk just to discipline a few. They did, however, mention that military camps can have a very similar effect on character without the risk to combat units. I hope this helps.

Draft eh? Canada right here I come!! In all seriousness however, this has been debated over the previous few years. end is, we don't have the worlds maximum greater suitable military tension because of the fact we compelled little ones and youthful 2 an prolonged time olds right into a conflict they do no longer prefer to be in. we've an ALL volunteer tension that desires to be there. they like to get the preparation, they like the advantages that contain being interior the army, they like to apply the talents they have been knowledgeable for. And, they're especially damn stable at it. Now placed somebody interior the army, interior the warzone, that doesn't prefer to be there. you have a recipe for disaster. blunders would be made. money would be wasted preparation people who do no longer prefer to be there and can desire to doubtlessly placed anyone else in danger. and what's up with asking Senator McCain to re-instate the draft? One guy on my own won't make it ensue. the entire Congress desires to bypass a bill. i think of it became into Rep. Rangel that attempted to get the draft reinstated and individuals especially plenty shrugged him off and his thought as a shaggy dog tale. it won't ensue till some thing occurs to 1000's of our troops, or if we are invaded.. subsequently wanting greater troops to combat. A draft does not deliver any better message to Iran than we are already sending. They already be attentive to we can harm their entire usa and subculture with the frenzy of a button. including in many cases occurring women and men human beings voters to the army does not scare Iran into submission. basically thank you to offer up Iran is to enable Israel do as she pleases. enable Israel unfastened and we will finally end up having peace over there. Peace is gained in conflict, peace isn't gained by potential of signing a peace contract/accord. basically my 2 cents. -B

I served 3 years after 1 turned 21. I think the discipline would be good for most people. In Switzerland all able males within the age guidelines have to serve. They have a very peaceful country. That would be my second choice of a country to live in if I couldn't live in the U.S.

Nothing will lead today's teenagers to be more disciplined and productive short of a nuclear attack. Today's teenagers have been taught to believe, by their parents, that their rights supercede any responsibiliies they have.

As a retired teacher, and now a substitute, today's parents are proving themselves to be very irresponsible. They write excuse notes for their children saying their child was at the doctor's office when 20 students in that child's class attest to that one student attending the State Fair or NASCAR race.

Parents are the path to a more disciplined life for our teenagers; and, I have little faith in today's parents.

No! My son is enlisting in the Army against my better judgement. We have ex-military in the family who advise against it as well. Everyone who signs up right now is getting a 20,000 bonus and most all are being sent to Iraq immediately after Basic. He dosent even know what his favorite food is yet. Barely ties his shoes right. How is he supposed to be ready for a gun shoved in his hand and all the killing. The suicide bombers? I just wish the war would stop before he gets sent to Iraq and gets himself killed. This war is unlike any other and its time for the govt to pull their heads out of their ***'s before all our sons and daughters get killed...for what?

Many people are messed up for life by their time in the military. The whole culture is built on breaking down the individual and remolding them into a fighting team member. This may make great warriors, but it doesn't make people better fit for normal society.

No respect from our youth today ? that's a perfect reason to send them to be killed in some foreign country, over a phony war. For a more "disiplined and productive life", how about reading the Bible ?

I don't believe anybody should be drafted or forced to serve in the military. That should be the individual's choice. The military is not for everbody and not everybody should have to serve.
