We are trying to plan a vacation for sometime during the winter break. Since that time of year will be more expensive then we need something affordable but fun. We may possibly be traveling with a 3 year old as well so we would like to have some sort of child care/activity options. We live in Kansas City so flying might be the only option for a real change of scene. We have also considered going on a cruise but that would involve getting passports sometime soon. We have been going back and forth with ideas for months and cannot decide on what sounds best. I though I would see if anyone has suggestions as to what might work best for us. We are looking for something with a lot of activities or sightseeing, a good night life, culture, and (hopefully) some museums or attractions of that sort. We would not rule out camping (somewhere warm obviously) but if we stay in a hotel it should be nice. Beachy locals are a plus, but we would look into anything worthwhile.

Just as a note, DHS and INS have extended the passport dates for cruise travel to Caribbean Islands and Mexico until June 30, 2008, so if you want a cruise in winter 2008 you can still go using only birth certificates and photo IDs. The Sept 30th date noted on the news was for air travel only.

Try California, visit Disneyland, Universal Studios, Knottsberry Farm, San Diego SeaWorld.

You may also visit Hawaii.

San Diego will be best, with the Zoo, Beaches, Weather, decent downtown/night life. A nice get away from cold KC!
