A Janome can range anywhere from the low $100s to thousands of dollars. If you are purchasing your first machine, I would actually recommend purchasing a Kenmore (made by Janome). Great value for the product & actually has some nicer features.

I have 2 machines, one a Kenmore & one Janome. I love both and use them for different things. I bought the Kenmore as a beginner's machine & still love to use it. I bought the lower end machine & used it daily to make heavily interfaced handbags (which is very hard on a machine) for my business. It has held up wonderfully (for 3 years of bag making) & has not broken down once.

I just recently bought the Janome because I wanted to purchase a machine with computerized embroidery. I love this machine, but for different reasons.

I would definitely recommend Janome/Kenmore machines over Singer, White, etc. The quality is there, plus they seem to have all those little details that help beginners & experts alike.

As far as Janome prices, look at the Kenmore machines on the Sears website, that will give you an idea of the prices on similar Janome machines.

Anywhere from 199.00 up into the thousands.

But you can't beat a high-end machine for heavy work or hours of service. The cheapie machines will conk out if you sew every day.
