I would have to say it was my grandpa that introduced me to the Yankees back in the mid 70's. I remember them on the radio and on WPIX and I have been following them ever since. I was 11 when I met Mickey Mantle and to this day have is baseball that he signed for me. I remember when Billy was managing and when he was killed outside of Binghamton,NY the vehicle he was driving was brought to the local forensics lab, I went down there to pay my last respects to him. I Bleed Pinstripes... this 3rd generation Yankees fan!

Most people like to lump New York fans together like they are one. Like we all just decided root for them because we know they will get to the playoffs. If that was true then there would be no fans. Every year people are out there rooting for the team no matter what happens. Its been 7 years since a WS championship. We bleed pinstripes. I grew up in Kansas. We don't have a team. Missouri has two. So I am supposed to be a Royals fan? HA! I watched Donnie Baseball in his later years and I loved watching those guys. They didn't win and I had no idea how much money they had. The fact is the managers know how to win ballgames. Joe Torre has done an impressive job with this club and it's a shame that all the success is placed on the fact that they bought their ticket to the playoffs. For a team that was so far back, this was an amazing year for Yankee fans. We are proud of what our team did. No one talks about how Boston has lots of money too. Yet they haven't won a division title in how many years? For all the people above me that are talking crap, this is the reason why your teams fans get such a bad rep. The only reason I don't like Boston is for the fans that talk so much crap when they don't know their facts. They can make up a million excuses for why they think the Yankees beat them every year. If the Yankees suck so bad then how come they have been so successful? I know I am rambling, but if you are 12 years old and you decide that you wanna pick a team to watch and root for, then that should be fine. I picked the Yankees. They were fun to watch and I liked their captain. Since then I have watched every year till the end. 2007 World Series Champions - New York Yankees! By the way who is your team? Do you live in that state?

I'm a New Yorker, and I've been a Yankees fan since around1971. I remember the first game I went to, was a double header, in those days you still had double headers, in 1975 Shea Stadium Yankees against Royals. The Yanks played in Shea then because Yankee Stadium was being remolded. I don't know why I always liked the Yankees, since they weren't good in those days and all my friends were Mets fans, maybe was Phil Rizzuto he was the best announcer ever, but I've been a Yankees fan all my life and I always will be.
And I tell you, even today I still prefer to listen to a game on the radio, when I can, because when I was a kid not every game was televised.

My dad has been a Yankee fan forever so I grew up watching games with him & listening to them on the car radio.
His favorite player has always been Yankee Pitcher Mel Stottlemyre.
As far back as I can remember, my dad has loved baseball and he instilled that love into all of us kids. He taught us how to play like champs and as a result, Yankees baseball has become a part of who we are as a family.

I love baseball and growing up here in Arizona the only games you could here on the radio or see on tv were the dodgers or the Yankees and I chose to be a Yankee fan. The rest of my family were dodger fans until we got the diamondbacks. Now just my brother is a dodger fan.

It's a couple of reasons: I didn't really watch baseball until the mid-1990's (I'm 20 rite now so I was probably 8 or 9), so I'll admit, I became a fan just when they got hot. The lost to the Mariners hurt a lot cuz Griffey was everybody's poster-boy (even my sister liked him, I couldn't stand it). I also hated that people called the Atlanta Braves "the team of the 90's" because they won one rotten championship.
Then the Yanks cranked out 3 in a row and I was looking for a few accolades but I realized quickly that being from New York carries a stigma. People don't like you and they don't like your baseball team. So I had to root for the Yanks. They represented me because they took the brunt of New York hate.
You also couldn't help but fall in love with the people on those teams: Mariano, Jeff Nelson, Wetteland (we didn't forget u), Jeter (of course), Girardi, Knoblach, Stanton, David Cone, Wells, O'Neil, Bernie and Brosius. They were like real people, not STARS or baseball gods as people try to paint our team now.

My parents were from New Jersey, 10 minutes from the border of New York, sort of an influence, that and Derek Jeter. He is so awesome, and a FANTASTIC baseball player. I am so obssesed with them my friend didn't like baseball up until she met me, now she's a yankee fan because of me.

My father was a Giant fan so that was my baseball introduction..........Naturally I rooted for the Giants till my uncle (my father's brother) told me that I have to be a Yankee fan..........I was very young then but took my uncles advice and became interested in the Yankees........My interest grew quickly and I was soon a full fledged Yankee fan.........There I've stayed since childhood.............CAT

Too many blows to the head would be my guess.
Especially now, it's much too easy to be a Yankee fan. More often than not, they win, they field a team that looks like it should be at the all-star game. In other words, it's easy, doesn't take much to extend yourself to cheer for a group of 20 million a year players.
personally, I favour a little more adventure and heart.
