First off, let me give you the difference between dual core and Core 2 Duos, which I am copying from a previous answer I gave cuz I don't feel like typing it all out again:
Okay, dual core is a generic name, it means any processor with 2 cores. Such as the term "sports car" just a generic term for a type of car. Core 2 Duo is a specific model of processors from Intel, and they are dual core processors. Such as, "Corvette" is specific model of sports car. The Intel Pentium D, Core Duo and Pentium Dual Core, as well as the AMD Athlon 64 X2 and Turion X2 are also different dual core models.
Now as for which is better as far as performance, well as you can see there are many different dual core processors. For desktops, here is the performance roughly from best to worst:
Core 2 Duo > Athlon 64 X2 > Pentium Dual Core > Pentium D
That can vary of course, the very best Athlon X2 might be better than the very worst Core 2 Duo, etc, but in general those are the ranking. For laptops, they go like this:
Core 2 Duo > Core Duo > Turion 64 X2 > Pentium Dual Core
again with the same thing in mind as with the desktops.

Dual core - 1st genration to hit the market
- FSB speed
- a power hungry processor compared to Dual 2 core
Core 2 Duo - use little power so heat and power consumption drops by 35%
- FSB much faster thus performance wise

In performance it's a little weaker than the Core2 duo.
Dual core can run only 32bit while the Core 2duo can run 64bit, that's why it's called the next generation....Why? because in the future will have in the market both softwares 32 and 64 bit.
Now, 64bit will be much faster than 32bit

well...I don't know if this helps at all but my computer is an Intel core 2 and it has four processors (quad core). And Intel duel core has two.
There might be core 2's with two processors though.
I don't know who comes up with these confusing names? Core 2 for 4 processors? lol
Hope this helps!
