I am writing a story for school and want to give my character car trouble, but I don't know much about cars. I want all of the lights on the car to go out while driving and not come back on. Dash lights can stay, but headlights, taillights, and turn signals should not work. What should I "break" on the car?

P.S.: You can suggest the model and make of a car to make it easier, but I would prefer a family vehicle, like a sedan or something.

alternator, dash lights will go out as well. Everything will die once battery voltage drops.

Have your character drive a Yugo. it will fall apart going down the road.

the car was a rusted out p.o.s. that had the ground wire break from being corroded. or the alternator quits, battery dies and the whole car quits.

the only way I can think of is remove the fuses for these items. I don't know how you could accomplish this while driving.
