There's an episode where they explain that a long extinct alien species sent out DNA to seed various worlds! We all have a common origin! We were all in their great plan!

I always thought it was funny that 80% of the aliens they came across where all so humanoid.
It was like monkeys made it to space billions of years before the federation and populated other worlds with little monkeys, now all grewd up
