The colonel was furious. "Can you believe it? They actually drew their weapons on U.S. soldiers." He was describing a 2006 car accident, in which an SUV full of Blackwater operatives had crashed into a U.S. Army Humvee on a street in Baghdad's Green Zone. The colonel, who was involved in a follow-up investigation and spoke on the condition he not be named, said the Blackwater guards disarmed the U.S. Army soldiers and made them lie on the ground at gunpoint until they could disentangle the SUV.

Because, they don't want the truth to get out. Blackwater and other mercenaries (although they hate being called that, that's what they are) about just how trigger happy such "hired guns" are. Mercs need to be held accountable for their actions.

The US is dependent on mercs, even though they demand a more hefty price tag per guard then a soldier would.

Neocons realize that if the truth got out, public opinion on mercs would go down, and mercs will play an important role in "preventative" wars of aggression (which is what they really are) to come.

That's just the liberal media distorting everything. The neocons aren't cheering the fact that a private army being paid millions of dollars by the American taxpayer, they're cheering the fact that Bush is such a strong leader that he'll stand up for what is right.
(Note to most Yahoo! readers: That was sarcasm. Have somebody explain it to you)

The neocons are cheering the fact we're getting closer and closer to privatizing the army and taking power away from the people and putting it in the hands of private concerns. Why is Blackwater (or anybody else) there at taxpayers expense? Isn't that why we spend Billions on our military?

I don't see anywhere in this story of any actions taken by the president or VP to "subvert" investigations. Do you have facts or is your whole statement an opinion? Are we to infere that there must have been something fishy going on all on your judgement?
