That's a good question, I would have to say.....a tie. And maybe the west just a little bit better. Here's a 12 man roster of each conference.

West
Steve Nash
Dirk Nowitzki
Tracy Mcgrady
Yao Ming
Pau Gasol
Chris Paul
Tim Duncan
Carmelo Anthony
Elton Brand
Baron Davis
Shawn Marion
Amare Stoudemire

East
Dwyane Wade
KOBE BRYANT
Kevin Garnett
Dwight Howard
Paul Pierce
Jason Kidd
Vince Carter
Gilbert Arenas
Chris Bosh
Lebron James
Michael Redd
Chauncey Billups

I think the west is just a bit better even without Kobe, because they've got two of the top draft picks in Greg Oden and Kevin Durant. Then, I didn't list Allen Iverson, Tony Parker(finals mvp), Carlos Boozer, Deron Williams(team usa), Josh Howard (all-star), and Ron Artest (great defender). The east only had Tayshaun Prince, Ben Wallace, and Shaq that I missed.

Yeah, what a cheap way to pick up points. Wonder what the Answers community has to say about that?

To answer your question, it's hard to say that the balance of power would shift. Like KG to Boston, presumably Kobe would go from a non contender in the Lakers to a team that's thought to be a contender in the East; but certainly not a powerhouse by Western Conference standards. What ever team emerges from the East would still be an underdog to Phoenix or San Antonio.

Lakers and Kobe will evaluate how they did in the first half of the upcoming season and based only on that will they make a decision of parting ways when the trading deadline comes around in February 21, 2008

Remember last year before Luke Walton and Odom went down they were 26-13 and were 3rd in the Western Conference.

Very small chance that Kobe is gonna be traded this year unless the Lakers are at .500 and out of playoff picture and the team is full of injured players when February rolls around

What Jerry Buss said was he'll let Kobe go only if the Lakers stink it up around the trading deadline and then and only then will he consider trading him

But as of now Kobe is going to be a Laker and will be for the rest of the year

EDIT

well it all has to do with Kobe leaving and the answer is no...which is the same in all questions

whats wrong with the answers? its my answers, i can copy and past them however i want to adress the question

no opt for. James has the finished cavaliers on arrest ever because he suggested on interview that he would pass elsewhere if he might want to probability upon the championship. That on my own has the effect of the Shaquille O'Neal information hitting the Magic that he will ditch them for the Lakers. at the same time as James walked out of the Magic section after interest 6 with out asserting a be conscious, that would have caused caution around the Cavs crew... possibly Ferry revisiting the foiled Shaquille O'Neal commerce and dialling numbers all summer season lengthy. wish this helps.

"If" Kobe gets traded to the East he would follow fellow west alumnis Rasheed Wallace (who made the difference enabling the Pistons to capture their third ring in franchise history), Shaquille O' Neil (made the Heat's front court a lot better... enabling them to capture their first crown) and Kevin Garnett (who saved Danny Ainge's job and butt).

Having said those West heavyweights who captured the Eastern part of the land you can say that they somewhat changed the landscape of NBA land. With Kobe transferring from the Wild, Wild West to become one of the East's Beasts it would spell balance in the NBA, especially with him combining with Lebron James in the All-stars they would form the one of the best wing men tandem in NBA all-star history. It would certainly halt West's dominance over the other conference.

Hope this helps.

No, the best teams will still be in the west, but the east will be more entertaining.

no, because the west will receive some star back even though it's not as good as kobe.
