Well for the first person that commented, I would have the cat to be an outside cat and poop and pee outside and get exercise by catching birds and running around. Thats a good life for a cat!

To be honest with you; while there are exceptions, in general outside cats aren't a very good idea.

They are often far less friendly than inside cats, are more susceptible to disease, and you are opening them up to the chance of getting hit by a car or being killed by a stray dog or a wild animal. If you live in a country area, you are also giving the cat the opportunity to go and 'investigate' a venomous snake (which cats do, trust me) and being killed that way.

You'll need to spay/neuter very early, or risk having hundreds of cats running around. It isn't as easy as you might think to find homes for kittens. Or if it is a male, the male cat will wander and is of an even greater risk of being killed by a car or animal.

Do you really want your cat killing the local birds? How would you feel if you walked into your backyard, only to see a mangled, half dead bird looking up at you, breathing it's last breaths? I guarantee you, your cat WILL eventually catch a bird if it is left outside. It is a cat's nature to do so. Are you willing to take responsibility for it's actions, having to put the bird out of it's misery?

I don't mean to get down on you about this, and who knows? You may have the ideal situation for an outside cat, on a huge, 40something acre property that is completely fenced in with 6-foot plus cat proof fencing, with no risk of cars or animals around, and I could be typing this for no reason.

All I am asking is that you please reconsider keeping a cat outside. It isn't that much more work to have an inside cat, and you will feel much better knowing your kitty is safe, happy, and indoors with you, where it should be.

Good luck.

Cats are not meant to be feral. There is a problem with Feline Lukemia, Feline Aids just to mention a few, and this is caused by people who don't keep cats inside.

Part of owning a pet is taking responsibility for it's actions and allowing it to roam free is not one of them. Just like having a child and knowing where it is at ALL times is your responsibility.

Whether you get a dog or a cat, it's your responsibility to clean up after it, via litter box or yard. Not allowing it to do it's business in other people's yards or where ever it wants to. By allowing it to roam free is not taking responsibility for it's actions or caring for it responsible enough. Thats saying just because your child has it's baby shots, it can go off and be reckless and have sex with HIV people just because you don't care, it's just plain irresponsible ownership of it's human counterparts.

Be a responsible pet owner and keep your animal protected from harm and keep it indoors as much as possible!!
