almost paper-thin, wooden airplane kits that came with a rubber band as part of the propeller? It was just two piece, I think. We use to fly them all over the place.

I don't have any brothers, but my husband did buy some of those a few years ago for a gift for a neighbor boy! They both had a wonderful time putting them together and letting them fly!

Oh sure. We had many of them. Remember when kites were a dime? When the paper was torn up we could use newspaper. The rudder ball and paddle with the elastic string? We could have so much fun with those little cheap toys. Now it's all electronics.

Oh Yea, but they had a body ,wings and a tail section, and after a few crashes were just scrap wood. Along with 'Playdough" that dried out if ya forgot to put it back in the can. Oh yea , also "Silly Putty' which you could lift the print off the Sunday Funnies that were in color

Yes, my dad bought me a few of those, I had a lot of fun with them. It seems like I had the most fun with the simplest toys. We could turn a cardboard box into a castle, then when we were done with that, use it to slide down a grassy hill. No such thing as video games then (thank goodness!)

Don...Thanks for sharing that info. Amazing huh? I remember in the 50's when my mom sent me to the corner store (Victor's) to buy a loaf of bread for $.25

All the time when I was a kid. I've got three brothers (I'm a girl) and we always had those -- mainly because they only cost about 50 cents and my parents were cheapskates. We used to rig them up with matches and light them on fire -- not in the house, because we were opposed to arson.

I love the smell of balsa wood in the morning -- and afternoon...

Yes, I remember them well! My friends and I would fly them and have contests to see who could fly theirs the fartherest or the highest. We had some fun times. We'd make landing strips and airports for them, too.

10 cents each, wing, tail wing, body, piece of wire for landing gear, two plastic wheels, propeller, rubber band and hours of fun if you didn't smack it up or step on it.

No, but at school we made paper ones, and when the teacher was not looking we used to aim them at each other.

Yes and quickly learned not to fly them in the house. You know, back in the days when you still got spankings? lol
