how much should i expect to pay for a new septic system?

we're building a new house and sewer is not an option. is fall an ok season to put one in, or should i wait til spring? and how expensive is it from scratch?

The answer will depend on several factors. What part of the country you live in. What type of tank you want, what kind of pipe for the field drain. (Never let them talk you into corrugated pipe) if it ever needs to be cleaned it doesn't work.
In my area 200 feet of field drain pipe is $1800 the more you put in the cheaper it is.
Also If the property doesn't have a septic system already then you go to the higher dollar amount. #1. EPA allows only new systems with 3 acres or more (plus check with building codes yours may require more.
They have to do a test before they can install a system and it must be done by a certified tester. The test is to determine how fast the water drains in the soil.

If you already have a system there then it is grandfathered in and THAT will save you money. Because you can improve it or do the job yourself.

If at all possible do the job yourself 'cause it's expensive . Just remember when you lay the pipe every 10 feet get's dropped 1/4 ".

I know this because I called the EPA in my state and told them what I was told..by the business guess what ? they were trying to rip me off.
