Not my husband, son and I but my parents, brothers and I...we weren't toxic, just a bunch of total dysfunctional freaks (we put the FUN in dysfunctional).

My dad was an alcoholic, my parents fought as long as I can remember then divorced when I was almost 9 yrs old....my mom had to lie about how old her kids were and how many she had to get a job (it was the 1970's) as a secretary and whenever one of my brothers was sick I had to stay home from school to take care of him (I was the oldest); so I took on a psychological role of a parent/friend to my mom (years of therapy taught me that). I was sexually molested by one of my mom's boyfriend's (never told her) and sexually active at FAR too young, making 2 mistake marriages before finally finding a man that saw me through my therapy and understands my long-term depression I'll have to be treated for forever. Only me and my youngest brother graduated from high school; the other became a drug addict and later an alcoholic before finding out he was severely bipolar and now he's on full SSDI; the last brother dropped out of high school and has held odd-jobs as a short-order cook, warehouseman, artist, tattoo artist and bar bouncer.

Gee.......maybe toxic is the word???

My EX is very TOXIC .. and so are the Selfish Young Adult Children at this time. Other than these individuals .. my family (namely my siblings) are very supportive and caring, something that we nurtured throughout our long lives .. but especially so as we are reaching towards our retirement ages!

I no longer have a family; but when I did, they most definitely were not toxic.

Luckily my family is very supportive of me and I'm not sure what I would do without them right now!! There was many years though when all I got from my father was negative but he has done a lot of changing and I love him more than I ever have!!
