It's a huge pet peeve of mine, especially when they are seemingly simple words. So, what do you all think? Is it as annoying as I think it is, or am I being too picky?

No never annoys me! What annoys me is persons nitpicking when I merely used brief forms to fit the forum questions are asked in. Some Stupid Nitpickers don't have the realization that some questions can not be asked in full proper spellings due to the limitation of characters allowed in question forum! I seldom use short spells like U for you if I can get the message across in a small amount of words. I also think those that don't answer a question or can't understand it shouldn't answer it at all! I will always use short cuts if I can't fit the question in the allowable characters. I always try long form first. I don't sametime having to make a question fit! I give thumbs down to nitpickers. Haven't You ever heard of Shorthand? You are far far far too picky is my opinion! You'll probably complain about the single U I used above! You just are too lazy to think! If you want Yahoo to be free of short cuts then push for more characters allowed per space! 200 more characters allowed in addition to the characters already allowed is sufficient!
By Me spelling complainers will always get thumb downs unless the question is asking for a complaint! Just because I use shorthand spelling doesn't mean that I can't spell! Those that can't understand simple shorthand are the dumb ones.. Everyone with a brain can figure Y= Why, U= You, & = And. If that bothers you I wonder what kind of school you went to! If you don't like shortcut users.. skip them don't answer their questions. I repeat I use shortcuts only when full details of a question doesn't fit in the long full term and in explanations as here! Need more explanation then see ca.360.yahoo.com/ddherbals note if you complained too much about my short cuts you might be blocked.

If you want to get technical, your first sentence is not even a full sentence.

It's a huge pet peeve of mine, especially when they are seemingly simple words

You have no description of what your talking about in the sentence. What is a huge pet peeve? Also, what are simple words?

I am actually taking Comp II in college now, and it is funny that you are correcting someone, and you make a mistake when you are trying to correct them...Thanks for the laugh.

It's pretty annoying. Some of the questions asked in Yahoo Answers are so loaded with incorrectly spelled words that it makes it impossible to figure out what the person is trying to say. You're not being too picky.

I hear ya...know where you are coming from...I usually spell well and am a bit of a perfectionist about it....Butt...if mispeelin bye others botheres me, it is usulley becuz I am a liddle pissed off at someone or becuz I wunt to feel souperier...and I can still go there but I have worked to overcome that negativity....I look at what the person is saying...as the message is so much more important than the medium...I also have learned that misspelling does not necessarily reflect a lack of intelligence...You will get past it if you are able to identify what purpose your intolerance serves for you....I must say....I drove the Spell/Checker crazy on this answer....

I think the problem is so many people text that they forget how to spell the word the right way. They can hit the spell check ^ and it would help them, but some don't seem to care. I try not to let it bother me, because if that is the only thing wrong then my day is going great.

It's hard to read sometimes but at least they are trying. Hopefully. Do you realize how many people in America still can not read at all? Adults. Many are ashamed to admit it. Many of the ones on here just spell things wrong because they think it is cute or quicker for them. We just hope they learn the importance of spelling correctly before they grow up.Try to help the ones that can not spell,or read, at all.

Yes and no.
It depends on how difficult the vocabulary is.
For example, if the misspelled word is quickly or to that extent, then it annoys me, since it looks uneducated.
However, if it is a word such as supercilious or panacea, then it doesn't annoy me, because those are difficult words to spell. Plus, you have to account for typos when someone is typing something.

Your concern is valid.
From personal experience, teachers are not bothering to correct misspelled words such as; cheeter (cheater) or noys (noise) because they don't want to discourage the creative writing process.
When did correct spelling fall out of the writing process?

or should I say, (wen did corect spheling fall out ahv the wryting prasess)?

Sometimes but not really. Using science, scientist had found out hat being a good speller is not from working, people were born with it. So not everyone is the same.

Some people simply are not programmed to be good spellers. It doesn't mean that they're unintelligent, only that their intelligence lies elsewhere.

I admit that it does bother me just a little bit, though, because I always try to have proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
