There are four quarts in a gallon.
In the US a quart has 32 ounces (4 cups of 8 ounces)
In the UK, the 'imperial' quart had 40 ounces (4 cups of 10 ounces).
In Canada, always stuck between the two, the quart had 5 cups of 8 ounces (40 ounces per quart).

Everyone gets 4 quarts per gallon.
A US gallon of water weighs 8 pounds net (i.e., the water only).
An imperial gallon of water weighs 10 pounds net.
