I graduated with a major in computer Science.

But I have this thing: I have never had a job, and don't feel qualified for something in my degree.

Is this normal? or do people feel confident of applying in jobs related to their major when they graduate?

the thing is that I don't know if my fears are normal but without a basis or if they are true and really I'm not qualified for any of those jobs.

When I see all the requirements in job postings, I just feel overwhelmed and want to get away and forget about everything.

Other times, I go back to my college books and try to remember things I have already forgotten.

I don't know I just feel bad.

There's a problem some people , usually smart people, face called the Kafka complex. It's named after Kafka, a brilliant writer, who kept thinking that he wasn't good enough to deserve the advancement he'd attained. The better he did, the more worried he became that when people finally found out he was just faking it, they'd punish him for fooling them.

It's a very common problem. I think it comes from the lack of symmetry in what you know about yourself and what you know about other people. People mostly try to put on their best face when interacting with one another. They try to look cool, calm, confident, and so forth. You try to do the same thing, but you know what you're actually thinking.

You might see a competitor at an interview and think, "man, this guy knows what he's talking about". Meanwhile, he may be thinking, "man, I hope I don't sound too stupid, because I only remember half of what I'm talking about".

Remember that you're the only one with access to all your doubts, but everyone else has their own.

I think it's normal to feel the way you do. When I graduated with a degree in Accounting, I felt like I didn't know the subject at all. I thought that I studied and passed tests and then forgot everything. I was already working in the Accounting area but doing payrolls, so it wasn't really the same thing. Anyway, now I have a job that deals with all the things I learned, and everything came back to me - even things I didn't think I remembered or ever knew at all. Try to feel confident in yourself and know that with any job you get, they will go over the basics and what they expect of you. If you earned your degree, then you're qualified - just not experienced yet.

You know, it is normal, average, the usual thing. Sometimes I feel the same way, and I have been working for 28 years. But then I see what other people are doing and hearing how people feel about it. The other people are getting good ratings and I am doing just as well. You just need experience. Sometimes you don't know what you can do until you do it. You will be fine. I like your humility.
