I know that speech writers love them and Campaign Managers love to show that their guy or gal has a sense of humor, whether they do or not.

But it seems to get candidates in trouble more than anything else due to the hypersensitive waiting for ANYTHING to pounce on. What do you think?

only if they can't tell them well. The day we all lose our senses of humor is the day I plan to drop my pants on the floor, just for laughs

There are three things I look for when first assessing a candidate. First, does he understand on some level what I mean when I say life is too important to take seriously. He better have a sense of humor about himself, not necessarily be a good joke teller. Second, has he ever failed and had to get back up and try again. Third, has he ever sinned, i.e. given in to a temptation which may not even be something that a particular religion regards as a sin. Without those three things, he or she will have no judgment, humility or the capability of surviving the job. Then we can talk about what he thinks the job is and how it should be done.

azman is making sense to me.... (which is a sure indication that I'd better get some sleep before I answer any more questions) .....but, since I'm already here, I'll say this much:
I love a good joke. Who doesn't? The thing that bothers me is that some of the jokes being told are in poor taste... which is why those candidates get into trouble for telling them. Jokes don't, by definition, have to be used to make light of a sad situation; nor, to flip off another person (even an opposing candidate).... I'd rather hear a joke from someone who's already shown his or her ability to handle the serious issues in a serious (and mature) way. Otherwise, what would be the point of a new President. We might as well, in that case, retain the one we have. Now, that would be a joke. Not funny.... but, a joke, nonetheless. OK.... Goodnite, Mad Man.

*Note to azman.... Have you given any thought to a political position? (i.e., if they ever release you.) You really should consider it. You have a certain "Bush-like" way with words. Worked for him.... didn't it?

In this upcoming election?? the candidates ARE the jokes. NO writer could come up with better jokes than the candidates themselves ARE. It doesn't matter whether they're Republicans OR Democrats, they're ALL jokes. What we NEED are some REAL candidates. Folks who actually stand for something and aren't just pennants, that will follow whichever breeze is blowing on that particular day. The last decent candidate we had was FDR and everyone KNEW what he was ot to accomplish. Before him, Abraham Linclon, again folks KNEW what he represented and there was No quibbbling OR flipflopping. Yes, not everyone liked them but they at least KNEW and understood where they stood on important issues of the day.

Oh why not? It gives us all something to chat and chuckle about. I still love the real dumb one McCain told about bombing Iran (not Iraq, Iran). Boy, talk about a lame joke with a lame delivery.

Side note, I do not like the hypersensitivity that society seems to have about certain things, like being PC or waiting for someone to do something bad.

I love the jokes they read. It shows how much they actually understand of what a joke is. You know they just don't get it, when they read that stuff out loud. How can they not ask, 'What they feck is this suppose to mean' or 'I can't tell this joke, people will think I am a retard.'

I would like to know what Hillary is thinking when she cackles for reasons only known to her. I hope she wins you guys.
I would vote for her if I could.

Sometimes people get too serious. It can border on uncontrolled anger. It is good to lighten up here and there. A little levity can help break the ice between opponents. We all may disagree on many things, but what unites us, is more important than what divides us.

NO , a sense of humor is good for the human kind , only animal kinds don't have the sense of humor , or not , just looks at the small puppies when playing between them's. Only a BEAST kind of persons are those that's don't have a sense of humor. SO , those who don't have or knows about a sense of humor are THE BAD ( beast like ) KIND OF LIVING CREATURES OF A CANDIDATES of the PEOPLES. And by that's , no matter whats , stills' , JOKES DO HAVE MORE FUN'S & GOODS.

Due to the desensitivity and demoralization of the US people in general, I think the cadidates do that to get on the voters level. They already feel superior to the typical voter, because they are wealthier (or are funded by wealthier) people. They feel that we as a people couldn't undertsand the REAL issues and they try to become our 'friend' by bond with us with a joke or two.
