Russians are friendly, seriously

you can stay in a hotel, the prices I think are quite reasonable (just do not stay in the hotels in the center)

if you're going to be careful and not going around dark and people-less places - you'll be fine, Russia is not a dangerous place to go

Yeah, just always pay attention to your surroundings. Most people are friendly and genuinely will help tourists out, but some may want to take advantage of you -- this is true for any country though. Ask the people at the front desk of whatever hotel you'll be staying for advice and where to go and how to get there and such.

Oh wow--you're going to Russia? I'd be a little nervous too, but I'm sure you'll be fine. Where at in Russia? We'll miss you! Take lots of pics!

My co-worker went to Russia this Summer, (albeit with a group), but they loved it, and never said anything about not feeling safe at any time during the trip. You'll be ok.

Just stay out of Chechnya, it is ranked the 5th most dangerous place in the world. Use your common sense, be aware. I think it is always wise NOT to carry your very much money or your passport in your purse. Keep it next to your body, and not all together. Keep copies of I.D. in other places. Try not to go places alone. Hope you have a great trip.

Use common sense and some extra alertness compared to the U.S. or U.K. and you should be fine.

There's a great book by Gavin De Becker about how to stay safe and what to watch out for that is highly recommended.

I heard they aren't too friendly to tourist, but my cousin visited Perm, Russia for a while, and she didn't say anything bad about it, but she was staying with a Russian friend.

With a name like Eagle Woman, I'm betting you'll be fine. As far as safe goes, you're probably not as safe as you think here. I want to go there too, but my wife is a bit uneasy about it.
