I want to build a giant beanbag chair, what goes inside most beanbags? What else could i use as a substitute?

They are little foam pellets - full of static electricity making them stick to the interior fabric and everything else they come in contact with once the bag is opened - there is usually a inside bladder so that just un zipping the outer cover won't be a cause of disaster. I would suggest you buy a cheap bean bag chair or two and make you own covering. I can not think of anything else that would work without being heavy or misshapen.

Ive had a few of these over the years, and they all contained styrofoam beads. You can purchase these beads by the bag at most craft stores, or even WalMart. Styrofoam 'peanuts' used in packing will also work. These you can find anywhere that sells packaging supplies, office supply stores, etc.

The bean bag chairs we had for the kids, had an inner lining (with zipper, so more beads could be added as necessary). The outer cover was also zippered.

If you are going to make this yourself, be sure to use good tight and strong stitching. These types of 'chairs' take a lot of abuse, hehehe... and can be quite messy if one rips open.

Here is a link to one such filler on ebay... note .. this bead is larger than what Ive seen in original bean bag chairs, but smaller than the packing peanuts Ive used to restuff them with. The description says they are 1/8" .... but if you look at the tape measure pictured with them.. these appear to be closer to 1/2".

Originally beanbag chairs were made with...beans (hence the name).
But you can use almost anything that is light, small, roundish, and relatively the same size.
Dried peas or beans, unpopped popcorn, wheat kernels, that sort of thing. The cheapest and easiest to get in bulk would be perlite (that tiny white beads you find in potted plants sometimes).. You can get it at garden centres.

you should totally use real beans. that would be cool. usually there's foam pellets inside normal bean bags. i made a mini-bean bag filled with ball bearings once....bad idea.

Corn therefore sometimes they are called as corn bags too. They are ideal in weight so as not to ruin the game.
