just wanted to know how common my fertility issue is. The Drs say it can be one of the leading causes for infertility and can often be mis diagnosed

I to have pcos, I was diagnois in April of this year, I always knew something was wrong with me, I had bad acne in high school, hairy legs, and not being able to conceive. I did a scan an it sems as if the both of my ovaries are filled with cycts, my ovaries are even larger then its suppose. I am 19 years of age, Yes I am young.
Having pcos and ttc is a hard thing to cope with, I am now taking charge of my pcos by going to my dr regulerly and eating healthy. Most dr don't check u up as they should, the 1st dr I visit check me up and told me I was fine, but I no I wasn't, and he send me home with some b/c to take for 3 months to help regulate my cycles.
then visit a gyno he told me I have pcos and he perscribe clomid 100mg to me and I did it for 4 cycles, he wasn't monitor me at all, each month I go in for my appointment he was like, your still young don't give up on the med, but he give me alot of hope on not giving up, but he never gave me a scan.
So I visit a different Gyno someone who has more knowlege to pcos and who treated it much more better, he give me the run downs but it, and what all to expect, then give me some brouchures to read pertaining to pcos, then he gave me an appointment to take a scan, and when I did it, he showed me my ovaries with the small cycts over it, (I just wished I could have snapp them of) he measure my ovaries and notice they were larger then normal, he said every thing was looking normal other then the ovaries, he then perscibe pills to me for the infection in my ovaries, also ome folic acid, pre- natal vitamins, and some materna and told me not to take clomid any more. So far being on metformin really gave me hope for this is my 2nd month on it and am having a reguler 29day cycle, and my progrestrone levels rise so I knew I ovulated on it, I will be BDing starting next week Tuesday and I can wait hope I get a BFP for my Birthday and baby dust goes out to u and everyone else ttc especailly with pcos.
remember there is hope

I have Pcos too, I knew when I was 18 but try telling my Doc that *frown* Finally I saw a nice lady Doc (5years ago) and she did a couple of tests and had a look at a few things and yes I had it. I went for some scans and my smallest cyst was 3mm, my biggest was 2.5cm. My left ovary was three times normal size and my right was double. I have done clomid miscarried twice and have two kids, one 3yo and one 10mo, currently ttc #3. I was lucky my gyno is fairly laid back about fertility drugs and is willing to give anything a go, hence the 2 kids, lol.

I was, about 2 years ago. I had a lot of the symptoms but had never heard of PCOS. I read an article in a magazine about a girl who was having some of the same issues that I had (she had several of the same issues as I have, actually), and she went to the doctor, and was diagnosed with PCOS. A while after that I was watching one of those mystery diagnosis shows on tv, and a woman also had alot of the same symptoms as me, and she too was diagnosed with it. I decided it was time to make an appointment with my doctor and sure enough I was diagnosed with it too. I was put on metformin. Its suppose to clear up everything, including infertility. I havent been trying to get pregnant so I dont know if it works for that but i've heard from several women that it does.

I too have PCOS, I was diagnosed around the age of 18 (I am 30 now). We tried to conceive for almost 2 years before we decided to get my husband tested as well, and low and behold, we had sperm issues too. Turns out that the PCOS wasn't what was making it hard for us to conceive (I was on Metformin and Clomid and ovulated every 32 days and I would say that I have a pretty severe case of PCOS). Once we figured out the sperm issue, I got pregnant fairly easily- it was staying pregnant that was the challenge. I miscarried 3 times in 9 months (my doc told me that the miscarriage rate with PCOS is nearly 50%- I'll be seeking a second opinion this time around). We went on to adoption as we couldn't stand the thought of losing another baby. We're getting ready to start trying again and I am cautiously optimistic!

I was diagnosed last year, my doctor then told me it was nothing to worry about and I did not have a very severe case. But since then it has gotten worse...he told me it would not affect my fertility and it is nothing to worry about, but in my heart I know that it is something more than what he is saying. I am going to the doctor again for a re-evaluation...to a new doctor. I have ALL the symptoms that are generally listed in this disease, and it has even gotten worse. We are TTC #1 (for me, he has children from a previous relationship) together so I need to get in there ASAP!

**waving my hand** I have! I have!
I heard it's actually more than 1 in 3 women have it. Many don't know because Drs tend to diagnose symptoms individually rather than taking them all together. I have several friends with PCOS as well. There are multiple support groups, thousands of women on-line have gathered together.
Here are some web pages:
