The egg is only viable for 12-36 hours. After that, if it hasn't been fertilized, it breaks down. So after a positive test, there's a very small window, because it also takes time for the sperm to travel to the fallopian tubes.

Sperm can live inside a woman for 3-5 days, so you're much better off making sure to have sex for a few days before you think you'll ovulate, with the test just providing a confirmation that you have!!

After a positive test, you'll ovulate within 12-36 hours. Then the egg lives for about 24 hours. So...you have about 36-60 hours (1 1/2 - 2 1/2 days) to conceive. If you watch for your fertile cervical mucous and chart your basal body temperature, you'll be able to plan intercourse a little better and get some baby dancing in before your positive opk. Sperm can live up to 5 days, so you're fertile before you ovulate. Check out this site: http://www.fertilityfriend.com Lots of good information for you there.

Best of luck!

2 days! That's the longest the egg will live if it's not fertilized. Most of the time, it's even shorter than that (1 day)
I would suggest you have sex even before a positive ovulation test, because sperm can live longer inside, and thus increases changes of conceiving.

OPK's predict ovulation between 12-36 hours before ovulation(depending on when you tested to see the surge.) After ovulation takes place, the egg can be fertilized for about 24 hours after ovulation. Good luck
