According to your list:

Stone cold locks: John Smoltz (duh)

Have a great chance:Gary Sheffield (needs to get to 500 HR's)

Has 50-50 chance: Curt Schilling (has 200+ wins, big game pitcher (forget 2004, threw a complete game 5-hit shutout in for the Phillies in 1993 in game five after the Blue Jays had beat the Phillies 15-14 the night before)).

Has 25% chance: Carlos Delgado (needs a few big years and over 500 HR's to have a chance, not much boldface on the back of his baseball card)

Need about 7 more big years: Magglio Ordonez,Alfonso Soriano, Brad Penny,Carlos Beltran, Michael Young

Too early in career: Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Justin Verlander

Will be buying a ticket like the rest of us: Julio Franco, Jeff Connie, Moises Alou, Jim Edmonds, Luis Gonzalez, Jason Schmidt,Garret Anderson, Torri Hunter

Smoltz Yes.
Soriano, if he keeps putting up numbers like he is, Yes.
Hunter, Young, Ordonez, Beltran, Utley, and Rollins are still young and would have to do a lot more than they have at the back end of their career to have a chance at the Hall. Anderson, Gonzalez, Schmidt, Penny, Alou, Delgado, Conine, Schilling, Franco are not going to be Hall of Famers. Gary Shefield, depending on how the voters view the Steroid issue has the numbers to get in. Edmonds is gonna be on the fence but right now I think he falls short. Verlander, it is a joke that you even included him. He just played his second major league season. Wait until he has ten years before you throw his name in the mix. Remember Kerry Wood and Mark Prior? Everyone was ticketing them for the Hall of Fame after their first few seasons and neither of them will ever make it. They will be lucky if they can stay healthy to play another full season.
****Schilling is not a lock for the Hall of Fame. He won 20 or more games 3 times. He does have over 3000 K's but 1992, 1997, 2001, 2002 and 2004 were his only real Hall of Fame years. In 1992 he had a great 2.35 ERA but only went 14-11 which isn't great. I don't think he is as dominant as other pitchers of his time such as Maddux, Pedro, Randy Johnson, Glavine, Smoltz, or Clemens. Those guys are HOF pitchers.

Of that list, here's how I'd break them down:

Guaranteed inductees
Gary Sheffield
John Smoltz

Borderline inductees
Carlos Delgado
Curt Schilling

Too soon to tell
Magglio Ordonez
Justin Verlander
Carlos Beltran
Chase Utley
Jimmy Rollins
Alfonso Soriano

I'd say that nobody else on the list has even a shot. There are plenty of good players like Garret Anderson and Michael Young, but neither is a truly great player, nor are they likely to get milestones like 3,00 hits or 500 homers.

The only one out of this list who can stop playing right now and make it to the Hall is Smoltz.

Those definitely out are Conine, Franco, Alou, Gonzalez, Edmonds, and Anderson. These guys have not had spectacular careers and don't have much playing time left.

Everyone else has a shot.

Funny you mention Young..I'm his biggest fan! He's a great player and I only see him growing from here. He has had 200 plus hits in 5 straight years. Out of those people I say yes to: Young, Hunter, Anderson, Ordonez, Schilling. I would have to check on the others. However, all I've heard of Conine has been good.

out of the first five names i dont believe anyone will be in the hall not good enough numbers.next five i think sheffield for sure and maybe edmonds but not the rest.third 5 shilling is a lock and i could also see beltran but i dont think the rest will.last five smoltz for sure and maybe soriano. the hall of fame is so tough now because they look so much at the numbers now but i personally think as ballplayers almost all of these guys deserve to be there.
