Car blowing blue Smoke?
My car was blowing blue smoke after long idling at lights etc. I got my valve seals replaced about 3-4 weeks ago.

Since it has reduced incredibly (used to do it several times a day), but every now and then (maybe once a week) it will still do it at long idling. Is this residue? It's a Hyundai Excel with 160'000 kms on it and it drives really well.

Don't know if this helps but The oil level has not lowered in months? And it is only after a long idle and a massive rev, never constant... I just find it hard (or sad) to believe its on its way out when It drives so beautifully!

i'm not too familiar with hyundai but i wouldn't be suprised to see some residue from this job. make sure that the oil level is not too high. you may also be imagining this to a certain degree now that it has your attention. no offense, it wouldn't be the first time though. if it is really obvious, check around the engine for oil that may have spilled and is burning off the exhaust or another hot component of the engine. After this i would take it to a highly regarded dealership and ask to speak to the shop foreman or shop leader and explain the situation to them. You would have to then be prepared to pay them an hour or so of their hourly rate to investigate.

I would guess, at 160,000, that you have a bit of blow by from piston ring wear. Nothing serious as no oil loss, just a bit of smoke. If you are too worried find a local shop and get a compression check. This will tell you what the valves and rings are doing. Stay away from dealers, they will rip you off without fail.

I agree w/whoever said blow by. I had an old 89 Hyundai and I had the same problem. Mechanic said it was blow by and I got about 5,000 to 10,000 more miles out of the car before it died for good.

If you are not using oil (according to you dip stick) I would not get upset about it! They say even new cars use some oil between oil changes,up to 1 quart!

might be the transmission modulator. Check auto transmission level, the modulator is easy to fix.
