the ones that make me laugh the most are the one's who always claim they are in iraq fighting..but yet are posting here on answers. well being as I come from a military family and have FAMILY THERE NOW-actually fighting..I happen to know they aren't ALLOWED access to sites like yahoo-they actually aren't given much time to be on the net.. but other than that why do you think so many people on here lie?

That's all people know how to do. People don't know how to tell the truth. The problem with lies is that people have a habit of multiplying. Lies breed like rabbits.We might think we are being very honest when we divulge. People lie to gain money, power, approval, for a good laugh, escape embarrassment, etc. Some people often lie about things trying to feel better about themselves. Those lies can start in private, among friends, then slip out of the liar's control. Some liars feel recanting is not an option once they have started. Once liars start to lie more and more its easier to embellish it a little bit or the liar might start believing their own lies. The stories that we repeat to ourselves, over time they take on their own reality and you don't realize what the original truth was. Some lies are devised purely for the joy of pulling something over on someone and trying to get some control of the other person. At the other end of the spectrum, a person may lie because psychologically he cannot acknowledge the truth -- even to himself. For example, a killer won't confess because he just can't believe he could have done it. Whether people lie depends on their environment -- the likelihood of getting caught and what will happen if they are caught. Everyone lies though, whether its filling out an application and saying some out of the blue thing about them to get a good job or some girl telling a guy her boobs are real when actually they are fake or when guys tells a girl they really like them.

My category of choice is in the dogs category and I know a couple of people on there that I have met on the intenet several years ago and it astounds me at the depth of the lies they tell. It can be pretty scary when someone who has been investigated several times for running a puppymill and abuse of animals acts like an expert. And another who claims 30 tears of experience with a breed that they have only owned for 4 yr. I know because I was the one that helped them out the most when they were looking to buy their first one. They also claim to have rescued 300 chihuahuas. I could fill a page up with their lies.
What is scary is how many people fall for their lies and think they are just about the best kind of person alive.
You never can know for sure who you are talking to on the internet,/ They could be an axe murderer and you would never know, or a child molester.

B/C it's the freakn internet. People lie on here all the time b/c either their young and dumb or a pathological lier anyway and can definitely get away with lying online. I mean how could you actually get caught in a lie on the net. Also they are probably creating a new life online, and actually feed into this new life so therefore creating split personalities or their doing it just be jerk off losers with no life!!

i'm sure you are absolutley rite about people lieing, that's just something you have to be cautious with if you want to be on the net, but to say that everyone (and yes, you make it sound like everyone) who says they are in iraq fighting the war is lieing, makes you an IDIOT. i don't care how many family members you have in the military you don't have the rite to speak about what goes on overthere, i'm on my 3rd trip to iraq and if i've learned anything it is that you have plenty of free time to do things such as surf the net. the leaders and the people in charge know how tough we have it here so they make sure we have plenty of down time to do things to keep our minds off of being here. if they did'nt , there would be a whole lot of suicides here, at least more than there already are. i don't know if you know it or not but there are a hundred different jobs in the army and some of those jobs run their shifts at different times of the day and night and sometimes alot of these soldiers even get days off to do what they want. internet is a huge part of the morale in iraq. yes you are rite that some government computers will not let you on some sites (mostly porn) but 90% of the computers that soldiers use overthere are their own PC's that are in their own rooms that are on civilian internet. there is alot of info that you don't know about and there is alot of info that i can't talk about on here but please get your facts straight before you go on here and call all of us soldiers liers.

Also being from a military family, I know that there are different circumstances at each individual camps that are located in Iraq. Some that are fighting may have more time on their hands due to their job descriptions, R & R, etc. Please don't always assume the worst if you don't know for sure what is going on.

IDK maybe because of the anonymity of it all. It's not like we can catch them and shame them. If they get caught, big deal just come back as someone else. It's their fantancy life.
As for the military. Im a veteran, my unit is in Iraq now, all of my good friends and some family. I have not seen anyone faking the funk on YA or else I would call them on it.
A lot of stuff does not make me mad but that would.

To make an impression. Seriously, that's the only reason why I could think anyone would lie on a website like this. They want to impress people, get best answer and those thumbs up. You can usually tell if someone is answering truthfully on a serious topic - they usually have thumbs down. Don't let it get to you. House M.D. says, "everybody lies".

Because morality is something that has been lost since a long time ago. Plus, the keyboard won't tell anyone about their lies and since theres anonymity in most cases, they might as well make things up and live in their own fantasy land.
For all it's worth, you shouldn't even care about them. It's good to laugh though :)

there's this country song i heard the other day by ... i forgot his name...anyway, it's all about a kid who is SO much more interesting online...because he can be all the things online that he can't be in real life. i think that's why people lie...because they can, because they don't find their real lives interesting enough or because they just wish they were someone else. what about the people who reply super arrogantly with totally wrong answers? that kicks my head. anyway, blessings to you and your family and i hope your people come home safe.

People lie for a number of reasons:
- they can get away with it
- they think they're funny
- they don't know any better
- they think the lie is more cool than the truth
- they are dysfunctional in some way
- they can't help themselves
- they're just jerks
