My opinion is that you can call it the way you want to. No one is going to debate what you say or think about that. Call it the way you want to. It's your story so tell it the way you want to. What do you want the answer to be?

you do NOT count as first generation student for college because your parents went to college.
Although.....that is a very GOOD topic to talk about in your personal statement! talk about how your parents were able to go to college in vietnam but even people that went to college in vietnam aren't getting jobs and the pay they need.....so they moved to the U.S.
talk about their struggle to transition into a new country and culture and how hard it is to get a job even with a degree from another country.
and talk about how your parents worked hard to get u to where you are and how you would like to be the change!
and then talk about how even IF your parents went to college, you are still basically the first to go since their degrees are not usable here!
(and then make sure you fit all that into the essay topic. heheh)
good luck! :D

That doesn't sound right. So you are telling me that if they got like a PhD and became a dr over there that america would not consider them a dr. Now that's screwed up. Anyways, I would say that your parents got a degree in college therefore you are not a 1st generation.

I am so sorry that your parents degrees are not recognized here in the US.... yes you would be consider first generation
American college graduate.... Even though your parents are intelligent people.... and have degrees from Vietnam... you are still first generation American, even if you were from
England or Germany.....

You're not first generation college student. Your parents are the equivalent of college drop outs. They went but they don't have degrees.
The college education standards are much tougher in the US than a lot of other countries. That's why doctors from other countries can't usually pass the med exam to get a license in the US.

Within your family, you are a second generation college student. You may be considered a first generation American college student, but I don't know who would make that distinction.

If their degrees would not be recognized at the institution which you are applying with, you have every right to claim yourself as a first generation student.
For all practical purposes, the institution has no means of verifying that you are not if they would not recognize your parents' degrees.

they are in a position to hold the only verify on the hire because of the fact they're the only ones on the settlement. How might desire to they circulate after somebody they have not any contract with? regardless of if that became into the reason, it rather is not what got here approximately. it rather is to no longer say the verify caught retaining the bag can't turn around and sue the verify who became into meant to sign. each and each guy or woman who signs and indications a hire is a hundred% to blame that the hire gets paid. you do no longer sign on your element to a hire.

So, what is one has to do with another?
1st,2nd, who counts?
Your parents with degree could obtain job outside of "manual labor" if they would learn English, take some classes to improve their skills.
They could become doctors,teachers, etc
