Although mothers often dilate and efface weeks before actually going into labor, 25 weeks is definitely on the early side. Do you have any risk factors for prematurity? Don't worry uneccessarily but do ask your doctor about the signs of early labor so you can be ready just in case.

First off, if you are still cramping you NEED to call your doctor because you could be contracting. As for the effacement, I was 100% effaced at 29 weeks and 1cm dilated at 31 weeks and I've made it to 35 weeks, so if you do what your doctor tells you (STAY on bedrest) you should be ok. Good luck hun.

No, it is not considered normal to be 50% effaced at 25 weeks.

Have you had preterm labor issues? I'm wondering what made them decide to check your cervix in the first place.

While it is a reason to be concerned and to have them closely monitor you, it's still very likely that you'll carry to term and things will be ok. So don't panic yet. Just follow your doctors instructions.

Your doctor should be discussing this with you. If he/she is not, I would find another one! It's not normal and you could be headed for preterm labor. You need to have this explained. It may call for bedrest.
