I start talking like 300 mph and hesitate a LOT & don't make any sense. Am I doomed to suck at this forever? Will I improve after college - because right now I just can not speak or convey my opinions without having a panic attack.
Anyone feel like this when they were a teenager? Success stories are a plus. Especially if they include Hilary Clinton, however much of a Republican man she is, wow she is smart.

There's many, many people like you and some that speak in front of a crowd and don't appear to be nervous.....actually are, but it doesn't show.

Why don't you look into joining a group such as Toast Masters....here is some information for you to check out: Toastmasters International
Members learn public speaking skills by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment.www.toastmasters.org

You'll meet others who feel just like you do, but you will also learn how to control your panic attacks and extreme fear. Best of luck!

Learn to slow down and pause between sentences. Many people have had problems with public speaking. Wasn't it Demosthenes that put rocks in his mouth to overcome a speech problem? Winston Churchill also practiced some technique to improve public speaking. Researchers have also found that people who speak without any uh's and um's are not trusted or are not voted for as often as those who do because they seem too educated and people before the common touch.

Tape or record your speeches and then keep doing it until it sounds good to you. That's what I did. Also running over a talk in your mind and trying to imagine various scenarios helps you to prepare. Try to anticipate questions. That's called preparation - all good speakers do it.

yup was horrified at doing public speaking when i was a teenager. the key is to pause when u make a mistake.i.e not pronounce something correctly.
dont get flustered just pause n continue. focus on one thing at 1st then look around but look over the audience. looking at someone directly freaked me out. if u have a friend in the audience look at them for their reassuring smile.

hope this helps good luck!

i am like this too...unfortunately...
like a few weeks ago, i had to give an oral report in english class and i just freaked. my words got all jumbled up and i was sweating like crazy. i spoke faster than usual...which is FAST, cuz normally i talk pretty fast
and when i looked up for a second i just froze. my mind shut down completely

but i do think that there's hope for both of us and all the people who cant stand up in front of a class w/o panicking cuz a teacher recently told us how he used to be like that, but practice makes it better
(am i making any sense? cuz i just read it over and both paragraphs sound really weird...lol!)
anyways, good luck!

Loool no .. you are NOT doomed forever.. give it some time mate... and ... try this..

A MIRROR !... yea... stand and lecture yourself.. write a monologue... sing out loud... your problem isnt speaking.. your most likely lacking confidence and a bit shy... and try finding your safety blanket... sometimes its fiddling with something.. or jus doing something while you talk.. it keeps you busy and your mind off the 50 billlion people in front of you :D...

Hope i helped man...
