It was the early 60's. Shorts - even Bermuda shorts were not allowed until the early 80's.

For me it was the early 70's. My daughter still has a hard time believing that girls were not allowed to wear pants to school!

I went to school in the 50's and early 60's and we were not allowed to wear pants to school. We would wear them under our skirts in the winter to keep our legs warm while walking to school but had to keep them in our locker.

At my school in Oh. girls could wear pants if the temp was 15 deg. In 1970 while on Student Council we got the dress code changed to letting girls wear pants all the time, and got the schoolboard to agree. Oh ,yea, by the way I was against it cause I have always been a "Leg Man"

for us it was closer to the middle 60's. when I was a kid they would let us wear pants underneath our dresses in the winter but thats it and then in high school the last day of classes we could wear jeans. actually I don't think our school let us wear pants until afte I graduated in 1969. I think I would remember that as I hated dresses. I was a tomboy so pants would have fit me and worked for me so much better!

I graduated in 70 and still was not allowed by the school system to wear pants. Boys hair had to be just above the ear.

Pants were not allowed when I was in school, got out in 1963--on the last day of school we could wear bermuda shorts that were not shorter than 3" above the knee. I attended one year of school in Virginia, 1954, you could wear anything there and even no shoes was fine. My 4th grade class was in an old metal quanset hut with a pot bellied stove for heat and concrete floors. We also had no carpeted floors, no central air in Oregon.

I attended school in WV. When I started high school in 1970, we were not allowed to wear pants, except during the 2-3 coldest winter months. We could wear them under dresses. They changed this in 1973.
