I live in New York and it's a butterfly knife. I just want to carry it in my purse, I don't plan on fighting or stabbing people at all. Is that illegal at all? This site makes it seem like it's not, but I'm not sure.: http://pweb.netcom.com/~brlevine/ny.txt

In a specific ruling, a New York State court has said that the butterfly knives do not fit the definition of a prohibited weapon.

How is that for some legalese? They never said the knives are legal, just that they do not fit the definition of banned knives.

Yes I think it is at least in MA it is illegal to even own one that is looked up. Don't carry one in your purse if you ever lost your purse or a cop went through it they would have you down in the police station. These days they take everything very seriously

Depends upon your state laws and regulations.
In Cali it use to be as long as the palm of the hand however, some folks hands are larger than others so they had to change the law and make it 4" or less.

Do a search engine site and you should find your answer within seconds

last time i checked butterflys werent illigal but if its blade is over 3 inches and you conseal it then it is. so it may be to have it in your purse without a lisence. you should check the blade length laws in new york because im not sure. but the knife itself isnt illagal.

In most places it is not, but I recall a story of a women who avoided being raped because she had one, and when she was asked about it stated that it had saved her and she would get another one. Better to pay a fine for the knife than to be killed or raped!!

I don't know the law in your state.but in most states it is. I'm sure it makes you feal safe..
If you don't know how to use it.what good is it.
Why don't get you a faser that gives out a bad shock.
If you carry the knife, some one may take it away from you and use it.

I think they're a certain length you can have it. I'm not sure thought that's just what I heard.
Maybe you should just not carry it around in your purse unless you have to??
