#1) The bus had left 15 minutes or 1/4 hr earlier.
In this period of 1/4 ht,it has travelled a distance of 30*1/4 or 30/4 miles
The relative speed between the bus and the car is
45-30
=15 mph
Therefore the car will catch up with the bus in 30/4 divided by 15 hrs or 30/4*1/15 or 30/60 hrs or 30 minutes
2)Your question is wrong.Let us solve it for two consecutive even numbers
Let the numbers be x and x+2
According to the problem
x+x+2=118
2x=118-2=116
x=58
Therefore,the numbers are 58 and 60

#1) Consider 11:45 is the starting time,
distance covered by the bus = 30 mi/h * x h = 30x
distance covered by the car = 45 mi/h * (x - 1/4) h = 45(x - 1/4)
"catch up" means they cover same distance, then
30x = 45(x - 1/4)
30x = 45x - 45/4
45/4 = 15x
x = 3/4 hours.

Thus, the car catch up the bus at 12:30

#2) say, the two numbers are x and (x+1) then
x + (x + 1) = 118
2x = 117
x = 117/2 = 58.5

The two numbers are 58.5 and 59.5

Hello,

D1 = 30t
D2 = 45(t-15)

When they meet the distances must be the same so;

30 t = 45(t-15) divide by 15 giving us 2t = 3(t - 15) = 3t -45 so t = 15 minutes.

x = 1st int
x+1 = second

x + x+1 = 118

2x + 1 = 118
2x = 117

x = 117/2

No Solution.

Hope This Helps!

I don't think #2 has an answer, because 118 is even and two consecutive numbers (I assume you mean integers) will be one odd and one even, which will always add up to an odd number.
