Add Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. Drop Maine and Vermont.

BTW - Columbus never set foot in what is now called the United States.

There were actually 14 but the British held on to Canada. Maine was part of Massechusetts so cross that off. Could we possibly have forgotten Virginia, the home of Jefferson and Washington?

Here they are but a search using 13 original states gives lots of sources.
[ Massachusetts | Rhode Island | Connecticut | New Hampshire ]
[ New York | Delaware | New Jersey | Pennsylvania ]
[ Virginia | Maryland | North Carolina | South Carolina | Georgia ]

Christopher Columbus never set foot on what is now the continental U. S.

There was also Virginia, North and South Carolina and Georgia. Vermont and Maine were not one of the 13 original.

do you pay attention in class at all? I am just wondering, because Columbus has nothing to do with "finding" the colonies. And remembering the thirteen original colonies is not even close to difficult. It isn't rocket science.

For all the good it will do you (it is taking all of my self control just to avoid spewing insults), the two states that were not one of the original thirteen colonies are Maine and Vermont. The territory that became Maine was part of Massachusetts at the time of independence, and Vermont was part of New York.
I am glad I don't have to read your paper.

FFS do your own homework!

In this day and age with the wealth of information available on the internet there is no excuse to be so bloody lazy!

God help you if all you had was the library and standard text books like back in the day.

Christopher Columbus didn't find any states. Do a search on any search engine and you can find your answer.

Incidentally, Maine wasn't one of the original 13 states.

Virginia and North Carolina are the missing ones

Fred C. Dobbs is correct. Maine was part of Massachusetts, and Vermont was not its own entity yet; its status was disputed.

Well, there were 13 colonies before they were called states, and I'm pretty sure Georgia was one you missed.
