I like to stay in San francisco for a few weeks and wonder what campings they have there for 5th wheel trailers and whether they are convenient and practical way of being there in order to go to the city

Hi,
Depending on the road you will travel there is an RV Park at Candlestick Point State Park. Its a private RV Park, however, it is near the Niners Football Stadium. You will find the exit at Monster Park near 3rd Street. Whatever you do don't get stuck on 3rd Street. The Fifth-wheel will allow you to drive your tow vehicle. This is good because the area that this RV Park is in is not in the best part of San Francisco, just so you know going in. The RV park is very secure. I've had a number of friends stay there during the football season.
Now to get downtown. You have a few options take a cab, cost $$$. Public transportation is not a good idea because of the area. My suggestion is you get directions to Geneva Ave and drive out Geneva to Mission park and catch the Muni Bus downtown. You can ask about Muni(Public) Railway and see if it has gotten safer. Anyway good luck.

?? dude, it's difficult enough to get a car through the city road construction, traffic, pedestrians, trolley cars, MUNI, tourists.

An RV? have you seen the HILLS in SF?! The image I get is of an RV rolling backwards down a SF hill, crushing cars, trolleys, and pedestrians. Please, don't try it.

Park in the East Bay somewhere and take BART into the city every day. You don't need a vehicle to get around the city. Use public transit. Check it out at www.bart.gov or 411.org

It's against the law to sleep in any vehicle in the city limits.

Here's the closest RV park; they have a shuttle that takes you into the city:

Add: tom c above is incorrect; you can stay a day, weeks or months.
