Free hosting -- you can get but your customers or visitors will get pop ups and advertisements.

I use these people for all my domains .. low as 1 dollar a month and you get so many extras .. FTP and frontpage.
This is about as cheap as I have found and I have had no downtime and have 10 sites running with them now ...
Free domain?? Prob not. just use godaddy.com for all mine but 1and1.com might be cheaper but I like to keep them all in the same place.

Let us talk real world here.
There is nothing absolutly free.
There are literally thousands of places that offer Domain Names and that many again offer Web Hosting and Let's not forget the software to make the site and maintain it.
Many will offer one or more of the pieces of the pie free. But NO One place will give away free Pie. These companies are not in buisness to give there product away free.

If you are serious about websites either for personal or your business, don't go to free web hosting as they are usually not reliable and you may end up losing all your hard work. Free web hosts usually put advertisements on your websites and it could be annoying.
If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months' time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

i think most support ftp, but none that I know of give you a custom domain name.
