If I were you, I would pair pants with a tight-ish sweater, or cowl neck turtleneck. Those are some things I would do, when I worked in an office with a formal dress code.
Good luck! it can get expensive.

1] collect separates first in best neutrals, then lights. Pants or skirt suits [ or separate jacket and bottoms ] in black, gray, navy; or caramel, olive, espresso.
Add belts and dress shoes in same colors.
2] then collect tops for office - fitted [ women's ] Ts in all your best bright and pastel colors, of various necklines and sleeve lengths; blouses, button shirts, wrap tops, twin sets.
3] in spring/summer - add light neutrals - white and rosy beige; or ivory and warm [ yellow tinged ] beige.
4] collect classic jewelry in your best metal [ silver or gold ], best gemstones [ ruby, emerald, sapphire, amethyst; or garnet, topaz, emerald, amethyst ], pearls [ white or champagne ], and soft stones [ opal, jade, onyx; or coral, jade, turquoise ].
5] collect belts in varying styles and fabrics - croc, braided, whipstitch, crochet, embroidered, lace, velvet.
6] add trends where they will last - boots, hair accessories [ non-juvenile ], etc.
