...how does a person discern the difference in a mate if he's is trying to control you or if he is really wanting to sit and discuss things? He ends up getting mad because we can't come to a solution immediately.

Lol, I love that, talk to a priest, yea that'll do yea. That all aside, what you need to look at is if he neglects you for himself. Thats a big sign of a controller. You'll notice that in fights that his frist instinct will be to attack your worthiness. If he calls you names, blames you most of the relationship problems, or has a habit of keeping you out of the major descion making of the relationship. I couldn't tell you based just on what you said. From the simply description I'd say he is just trying to sit and discuss the issues, but doesn't know exactly HOW to do it in a construtive matter, this typically takes alot of time and personal development to get to that point so you can almost just tell you to be paitent. Or there could be other signs you not talking about. Generally if this is the only area of grivence, then its just his way of trying to work it out. If this is simply part of a bigger problem, then yes you could dealing with a person who needs complete control. Use your instincts.....
