No not going to happen. Similar to the year 2000 hoax, when everyone thought all computers were going to die and people ran to take their money out of banks in time. Don't believe it

I hear ya about the live life to the fullest crap.
So, here is some useful and practical advice if you conclude 2012 is the end:
1. Don't buy a house, rent instead.
2. Extended warranties are a bad enough deal already, NO WAY should you get any that expire after 2011.
3. Show a reckless disregard for depreciation and buy the fanciest, most expensive 2011 car you can.
4. Max out the credit cards by late 2011.

Every few years, someone comes along with another "The world is ending" hoax.
There was "the Jupiter effect" in 1986, when planetary alignment would create gravitational stress causing earthquakes, tidal waves, etc. The same thing came up in the year 2000.
When Comet Shoemaker-Levy crashed into Jupiter, it was supposed to send a giant ball of flaming hydrogen to incinerate Earth.
There was the Y2K scare ... also some thought that Sept. 9, 1999 (9/9/99) would cause computers to go haywire.
Comet Kohoutek, Comet Hyakutake, Comet Hale-Bopp, all were supposed to be signs of the end.
The year 2012 will come ... and go ... and 2013, 2014, and 2015 will follow it. I hope I'm still around, because a solar eclipse will pass near my home in 2017, and I don't want to miss it!

Here's a quick tip. This question is posted at least 3 times, if not more, every single day. Therefore, before you post any more questions, look in the "Search For a Question" bar, that is what it is there for.
Now to answer your question,
- Yes the calendar ends, but so does ours - each year. We even have big parties to celebrate.
- There is no giant astroid headed toward us in 2012.
- A polar reversal takes thousands of years to happen, not just overnight. So even if that was the case, it would not mean the end of the world. It would just make navigating by compass more difficult for a while!

it's just 'crap'...the Mayan calender is just another calender, the Jewish calender for example is already well past the year 2012.
The polar reversal is a known concept, because it has already happened at least once.
Their are a lot of people out there that believe it is all about them..."what's going to happen two hundred years from now?", 'well I'd be dead so there is no two hundred years from now'...the 'terminal generation' set.
