Macbeth says this rite after his wife kills herself. i guess it's supposed to mean somethin about the meaning of life. anyhow, any thought about why he'd say this or anything'd be sweet.

here's my essay question:

is manbeth right in the above quote? is life a "tale told by an idiot?" or is there something more to "all our yesterdays"?

yes macbeth is right, the idiot does end up telling the tale because we dont believe the smart person telling us the truth and we think that he/she is a weird and so he/she ends up being an idiot amongst fools even if there were something more, i think we wudnt have found out

Given his perspective, Life is a tale told by an idiot. The meaning of the entire speech is that there just isn't a point to Life. It's a rambling story that goes on and on, and is bound to end the same place no matter what we do. We cry, we shout, we laugh, we scheme, and a hundred years from now, it's the same as if we never were.

It's his opinion. Personally, I'm having a pretty good time and that's meaning enough. Sucks to be Macbeth.

Interesting...this sounds like ENC1101 creative thinking, I didn't read Macbeth and why did you say she killed herself?
As I read it I didn't see that she did, Iam thinking he is upset that she died. I'm not sure upset is the word, It's as if he's saying she could have died any time why now. I'm thinking he's not happy with this thing called life and he's saying someone lied by saying it's beautiful full of love and joy and happiness all of the good thing we say about life ,someone lied, and life totally has no meaning. I think he's speaking this way because she died...just my opinion

i think its saying that our lives are played out like a director ordering what each actor or actress do for each scene until the last scene. So, its saying is are our lives just something that we have no control over and do as others want us to do or are there more to life just someone pulling on our strings and our lives are valuable than we realize?
I don't know really since i never read the book, but i think this is what it is saying. I need more information on what's going on.

I think it harks back to the age old question of what is the meaning of life? Is it all just random and meaningless? Are we just passing the time, fighting the inevitable - death? Or, is there a purpose?

I always tried to like Shakespeare, because I thought smart people appreciated him.

After a while, I realized that I hated this guy. The banal jabbering on and on about the mundane and stupid, reminds me of an obsessive/compulsive mental patient.

If you want real entertainment, stick to Greek plays, that is where it's at.

He is the idiot. Everything he did was for nothing. It brought him into ruin and he lost everything that he thought he wanted when he was already well off before all the scheming and plotting began.
