I mean, it's a great source if you want to look something up real quick. Yet, many people don't realize that it's an online encyclopedia that can easily be edited by anybody who has a Wikipedia account. Even I can change the information on that site with my account, and I don't even have to be half smart to do so.

It's technically BogusPedia. Did you know Columbus discovered uranium while trying to find a trade route through Indiana? Or that Joan of Arc was burned with a steak because she ordered the New Kids on the Block to bomb Pearl Harbor? That's the problem with wide-open information that's built on the knowledge base of the user community....uhm, kinda like Yahoo! Answers when you think of it......

Wikipedia is a good source for general background on a subject. However, it has several caveats (things to watch out for). Some articles are not entirely accurate, or reveal a writer's bias. there is often a note about those. In general. any encyclopedic source is shallow--giving a broad, general look at a topic. Also, there is a plagiarism problem; students at times copy and paste whole paragraphs from wiki. Some teachers won't allow students to students to cite wiki or include it as a source. I usually say one and only one source in a Works Cited list can be an encyclopedia, and I don't mind wiki. (I have taught for twenty plus years)

No I really dislike it also because i had a giant report on some hero in history and i trusted wikipedia and it gave me faulty information which made me lose points. On the other hand though it was sorta my fault for completely;y trusting the internet.

Yeah, I agree. I would never use wikipedia for something serious, and definitely NEVER for a college term paper (there are people who do that!).

as long as you understand how it works, wikipedia can be a great tool for information. in fact, it is a lot more useful than yahoo answers, lol.

1) Thanks for answering my question; I have been debating ALL night about how I could test the lipstick, and the color wheel was the most obvious, logical answer that I completely overlooked! haha; Thank you
2) I dislike wikipedia aswell. That piques me also how ANYONE can just edit it. LAME. haha

I'm an IMDB person myself. Wikipedia doesn't give you a lot of good info IMO.

I guess. I mean I love it cuz it helps me do my homework much more accurately and it is so easy to use. Yes you can edit Wikipedia but it just won't be out in public.
