The southern states would never have ratified the Constitution if abolishment had been included. The Declaration had nothing to do with such things. It simply stated the reasons we were breaking from England.

This was one of the many compromises when they drafted the Constitution. Many of the writers were slave owners. Many of them wanted to abolish it, but they chose not to mention it in hopes that someday the issue would be resolved.
