2x + 7 = 5x + 16
2x - 5x = 16 - 7
-3x = 9
x = 9/ -3
x = -3

2x+7=5x+16
Ok. First you subtract 2x from both sides.
7=3x+16
Then you subtract 16 from both sides to get x by itself.
-9=3x
Divide both sides by 3x to get x by itself.
x=-3

What about it?
If the question is "Could somebody solve the equation for me, for free?" then just subtract 5x from both sides, subtract 7 from both sides, and divide both sides by -3.

Subtract 2x from both sides
7 = 3x +16
Subtract 16 from both sides
-9 = 3x
Divide both sides by 3
x = - 3
FOR THE RECORD JESLYN ... we could have all been solving at the same time and not seen the other posts. Or, we can show more than one way to solve ... OR frequent answers could reinforce the correct answer ...
