They might have perfectly normal children. Depression is not a life sentence anyway.

This is one of the most ignorant things I have ever heard!! People who suffer from depression are not monsters who need to be locked up and prevented from living a normal life. I have been suffering from depression for almost 12 years I have a daughter who is absolutely wonderful. People need to stop thinking that depression is this awful thing that makes people crazy. It is a chemical in-balance in the brain that makes people's bodies react different. Taking medication for depression is no different that a woman with an hormone in-balance taking birth control pills to regulate her period....
Some people do not know that they are suffering from depression or that it is treatable. I didn't know for a long time what was wrong with me but I never tried to hurt anyone I loved. When I felt down, I tried to look at the things I have in my life and remember who is here to support me. With medication and regular checkups to the doctor, I lead a normal life and nobody knows that I have this issue unless I tell them.... You need to think about things before you say them and realize that nobody is perfect but we are all entitled to live and be happy.... We are not all as miserable as you think or even the way we are portrayed in movies... Get a life...

I have been battling depression for 8yrs, I do not emotionally abuse either of my children, or physically abuse them. It has been hard, being sick and having two children to care for, but I do it and it has made me stronger. I have two very happy little girls, and sure we have are moments that are hard to bear, but we get thru. My girls have made me so much stronger, and for that I am forever grateful to them. They do not see the scars I bear, because having them around helps me to heal. I did not have my children for love or comfort, I simply had children, and it was the best thing I ever did with my life. How about saying alcoholics should not reproduce, or victims of abuse should not reproduce? Your question is totally unfair, you are making a false assumption that all people who suffer depression will abuse their children and that is not true.

You don't' know much about depression do you?? I've dealt with depression on and off for 40 years and I have three daughter's two of whom are out on their own. They are healthy and happy and doing well for them selves. The middle daughter is going to school to become a art teacher. The youngest is still in high school and she's planning on being a psychologist!! The oldest child has developmental disabilities and she's still able to live on her own. My children are doing very well thank you can you say the same about yours whom you're probably raising to be prejudice??

well i agree that its not best for the child to be brought intothe home of a depressed parent. i also believe poor people shoulndt have kids. there i said it. lol
but that being said, its their right to do so, and think of how many of us grew up "messed up" because our parents were. my mother has ocd and shes afraid of her own shadow - is she a proper influence on me? not in the least. its taken me forever to recover.
but the problem is, ew cant control it, we cant say to people" you must use birth control because youre depressed or youre poor or thers somethign wrong iwth you." thats ridiculous. its no ones business. if it turns out they are especially unfit parents, their kids will be taken away by child services. the rest of them will have to learn to deal with the sucky sort of life that many of us have growing up

They don't think that far in advance. They think a child might make them happy. And, there is no law that states one chronic illness is fine for parenting, and another is not. Hopefully, the government never gets in our face that much.

I have two answers. The first is that it is in our nature to produce. Just like any of the animals on this earth, we have instincts, and one of them is to produce. I believe we have to fight this instinct not to produce. Number two is the desire we have to nurture. Humans love to nurture. Even childless folks usually have a pet, or nieces/ nephews to nurture. It releases enormous amounts of endorphines in our brain to nurture. So, I guess one could say that we produce out of selfish need to love.

They should think twice--maybe they believe that having kids will make them happier, but no one should use another person that way. Chihldren are not anyone's "cure" for depression. Besides, isn't it genetic?
That's frightenning.

they have their rights. It's like not letting people reproduce, because they are deaf.
