Rabbits don't actually shed all that much, at least, short haired rabbits. They usually molt (shed) 4 times a year, alternating heavy and light molts.

There isn't really a breed that sheds less than others, it's more of finding someone's herd that sheds less and feeding the rabbit right. Good fur is bred into a rabbit's traits by good selective breed. There are a few breeds such as Rex, Mini Rex, and Satins that overall may tend to shed less. But they can shed as much or more than other breeds depending on their breeding. Also the amount of shedding will depend on how you feed it.

The more protein you feed your rabbit the more it will shed. Protein creates new hair follicles. New hair follicles push the old hair follicles out. Also giving your rabbit a diet that is too high in energy or not giving your rabbit enough water can cause them to shed.

You can somewhat tell the quality of the fur by looking at it. On my New Zealands, I look at the length and straightness of the hair follicles. I've found that my New Zealands that have longer hair follicles and hair follicles with a slight curl to the follicle tend to shed more. Also rabbits that tend to feel soft in flesh tend to shed more. The softness in flesh could be due to a combination of genetics and how the rabbit is fed.

All rabbits shed--even rex-coated ones! They usually molt twice a year--shedding their winter coat in spring and shedding their summer coat in fall. At these times your bun will look like a dandelion puff ! Our rexes shed nearly bald when they go--poof ! Like any pet, brushing daily will help keep decrease the number of unwanted hairs. We also use a damp brush, a small strip of clear packing tape to Gently remove loose hair, or a hair dryer (outside!) on low heat/air dry to blow away loose hair.

Shedding is primarily controlled by environment--including feed. Avoid changing feed formulation. An indoor rabbit will likely shed throughout the year in small amounts like a cat, but an outdoor rabbit will shed seasonally. Some breeds are more susceptible to shedding, like mini lops and wooly breeds (although the French Angora supposedly doesn't shed much--they have to be sheared to harvest their wool; other wool breeds are plucked of shedding hairs [wool fibers]). Small breeds have less hair To shed, but large breeds are less affected by changes. Attend a rabbit show or a good-sized fair (over 100 rabbits is best) and find out more!

All in all, shedding among the breeds is pretty much the same--just pick the bunny you love and groom it often !!

Well the first thing that I would like to say is that overall rabbits don't shed much. They do like 3-4 times a year, that isn't much. Second, the best breed that doesn't she much is a rex or mini rex. They have short hair. Good luck!

Mini Rex and Rex breed rabbits have would be the least shedding of the domestic rabbit breeds. Rex fur is very plush and soft, having little guard hair in the coat. There are also "hairless" rabbits that will pop up occasionally in breeding, but they are EXTREMELY rare.

I think that is is the rex or mini rex. Rex fur is very soft and plush but the problum is that they are not the cutest. the cutest breed of rabbits would have to be the the lop or mini lop rabbits. i also have a question that i would like to ask to yahoo website. How long is a lifespan for a avrege rabbit?
