sounds like an exhaust leak.. probably at the exhaust manifold. the gaskets go bad or the bolts get a little loose sometimes.

It's generally the exhaust pressure. When you accellerate, there's a much larger volume of air moving through the exhaust system that causes reverberations in the pipe and muffler.

If there's an exhaust leak before the muffler, there'll be some serious putting noise when you accellerate. Check the "donut" seal where the exhaust manifold meets the pipe to the catalytic converter.

If you are losing power along with the noise check your spark plugs, plug wires, dist. cap if you have one, any one of these can cause your car to make that sort of sound and lose power. also as the others said it could also be coming from the exhaust. good luck.
