I have heartburn everyday and have since around 20 weeks. I'm almost 37 now. I use tums all the time, but these can cause constipation if you take too many. I usually have about 15 or 20 a day. I drink about a gallon of milk every other day. Around 26 weeks, I talked to my doc about it and he said that I could take pepcid if it was really bad, so you can ask your doctor about that. Also try to eat small meals several times a day. This makes sure that you always have something in your stomach for the acid to work on instead of the stomach lining. The cause of heartburn in pregnancy is because your uterus is pushing up on your stomach and your body is releasing a hormone to relax your pelvis and make your joints looser for birth. Unfortunatly, this hormone doesn't stay in your pelvis, it effects all your body including the valve that holds liquid in your stomach. That allows the acid to go back up your esophagus. But you only have 20 weeks to go... Good luck!

Chronic heartburn is usually from acid reflux - stomach acid is getting past the little valve and into your esophagus. You also should know some natural ways to treat your heartburn. Learn them here https://tinyurl.im/aH88Y
The most immediate thing you can do is to stop drinking coffee and cola. Smoking is not good either, but that might be harder to stop. Don't over-eat. Don't lie down too soon after eating. Don't burp too much - this carries acid up with the burp.
heartburn the most common symptom of acid reflux disease (also known as gastroespohageal reflux disease, or GERD). Heartburn feels like a burning pain in the center of the chest. It is caused by acid from the stomach backing up into the esophagus. is a symptom of acid reflux disease (GERD) Also known as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Acid reflux. Make Tums your friend. I find Ultra strength works the best for me.
Take one or two before you lie down...and if you're having a bad reflux day, take one or two after you eat, or as you need. Really helps.
Totally normal in pregnancy.
The link below is a chart of over the counter meds safe in pregnancy, including what you can do to combat heartburn/acid reflux.

The cause is pregnancy. Welcome to the club. I took Tums and drank a lot of water and just dealt with it. There isn't much you can do. You can avoid certain foods but I seemed to get heartburn with anything I ate. Good luck!

As you can see there are a lot of causes. I think everyone already covered those. Anyway, I found that the ONLY things that helped me...1) Lemon squeezed in water. I know it sounds crazy but lemons are actually less acidic than your tummy is supposed to be. If I drank water without lemon...I paid for it. 2) Ginger-ale. Because of the sugar I didn't do this until the lemon had failed. I had GD. Tums didn't help me at all. Good Luck!

Your pregnancy hormones make your stomach-closing muscle more relaxed and that let's the gastric juices escape into the esophagus. Also, you might produce more acid during pregnancy.
Try milk or TUMS or some crackers and use a lot of pillows when sleeping.
