Mesopotamia was the cradle of civilization because of several reasons. First, it was located in the fertile land around the Tigris and Euphrates river. This rich and arable land led to agriculture. However, the rivers of Mesopotamia seasoned violent floods, and the area contained almost no natural resources. This forced the population to organize themselves and kick started the first known civilizations in the Western world.

Although the land was fertile, it was the deficiency of the land that created civilization. It is important to note that Sumer is the name given to the collective cities of Mesopotamia, it was not a civilization, the cities were not entirely unified under the name Sumer.

Also, civilization did not start at 6500 BCE, that is way too early of an estimate. It started maybe 3500 BCE.

There are many reasons Meopotamia was called the "cradle of civilization". From Mesopotamia, we get the first codified laws of Hammurabi. We also get writing from Cunneiform. The things that were developed in Mesopotamia are what make civilizations what they are.
