And so the ball starts rolling......... Some people just cant face the true facts but when (and it will happen) people are taxed on their own 'carbon omissions' especially unnecessary 'tank' users' they will realise it was better when the only the 'smokers' had to pay tax.......... Will they get their breath of fresh air? I think not........ bring it on........

Sorry to say , I think you have missed the point about smoking
in cars.
Yes to a point its to do with air pollution, anti- social behaviour & health consequences.
But more so I believe its to do more with concentration levels,
whilst driving. Lighting up, blowing smoke, dropping ash.
I must admit I am a culprit, & have been one for many years,
& I smoke a pipe whilst driving. Now not so much now.
As you can imagine you need years of experience to do that.
Can you fill a pipe, light it & carry on driving at the same time.
Especially as we all know, pipes continually need to be re-lit.
Not really sensible, when I think off it. Better to pull into a
lay-by , or not smoke at all.
What truly annoys me , is the fact, Mobile Phone Users,
regardless of the Law still never seem to be stopped, & cautioned for dangerous driving.
But ,I get your point about rules & regulations, with pollution,&
the necessity for a more sensible & flexible approach to all these things.
One positive thought though, as one gets older in years, one
questions the need to smoke at all....

Maybe people should only be allowed to drive in case of absolute necessity like going to work, school, doctors or grocery store. If one drives to go to the movies or amusement park he is polluting my air to indulge in his pleasure, that is unacceptable. I have the right not to breath somebody elses unnecessarily produced carbon monoxide

Wouldn't that be GREAT! Then, in a few years -after the Smoking Car drivers died off from Cancer, the roads would be clear & Air Pollution would improve Dramatically! & Al Gore would be SO pleased!!! :)

I am a keen cyclist and also own several classic cars, they are one of my hobbies, I do a small amount of mileage in them I never use them if a bike ride will cover the trip, I do not smoke and never have done.
I do not feel guilty for what I do and I feel you are blanketing all non smoking car drivers with your comment.
Nice article/link however.
