I started my period a week early, should i take the sugar pills even though i have already started, and if I do will it make my period last longer?

The sugar pills have absolutely no effect whatsoever on the length of your period. It's odd that you started before you finished the regular pills - are you sure you took them in order? Hopefully it's just spotting.
The sugar pills are just there to get you in the habit of taking a pill at the same time everyday. You don't actually need to eat them, and it won't effect your body if you do or not. Just make sure to start the new pill pack on the correct day.

If you are on your sugar pill week, then yes take them.
Take whichever pill is next for you to take. Whether it be the active pills or the placebo pills.
Sounds like you got your period on an active week. So keep taking your pills in sequence one a day at the same time each day.
Your body needs to get on track with the pills so give it some time.

THE SUGAR PILLS ARE JUST REMINDER PILLS. THEY HAVE NO EFFECT ON YOUR PERIOD WHAT SO EVER.
THEY ARE THERE TO REMIND YOU TO TAKE YOUR PILL EVERY NIGHT AND WHEN TO START YOUR NEW PACK.
IF YOU MISS TAKING ONE ITS NOT A BIG DEAL YOU JUST THROW IT AWAY.

Yes, most have iron in them which helps you while bleeding also it helps you to remember to keep taking them
