Getting a dvd onto your ipod is a matter of finding a DVD ripper that will convert DVD into mp4 video format (the format used by iPods and iPhones).
There's a free open source tool called Handbrake that you can download. It works pretty well on the Mac but not on the PC. It's also a little on the slow side (about 4 hours to convert a regular sized DVD)
The other tool I used is Xilisoft DVD to iPod Converter, which is quite a bit faster than Handbrake (only about an hour and a half per DVD) and also lets you take stillshots at any point during the movie.
There's a review/comparison of both of these programs at the link below. They both run on Mac and Windows. Hope it helps :-)

you can- you need software that can convert and extract the video files on the dvd into one main video file. Then once that is done, you convert it into the ipod video format and your done. The thing is i dont know any software for a mac that can do this, only for a pc. Post back if you want more info

Sure you can. It requires alot of work though. Firstly you'd have to get a DVD converter. Either a DVD to Mp4 converter (which I haven't found yet) or a DVD to Avi converter.
I use Total Video Converter (you'll have to crack it if you want it for free).
After converting your DVD to avi, you'll have to convert your avi to Mp4 formats which then can be transferred into your iPod.
Use the same software. Should be a breeze...
Good Luck!

You must make sure the video is mp4 format for iPod. If not, you may try some third party software. If you are a Mac user, You can try Handbrake for free, which can be downloaded at
http://handbrake.m0k.org/ .

i use the free trial version of DVDfab platinum (search it on google)
and a program called date cracker (download from http://www.e-tech.ca/003-dc2000.asp, which will extend this trial period infinitely. Very handy! (and free)
no viruses too; i have been using it for several months.
Not sure about compatability with Macs though, since all i have is a PC
if it doesnt work, maybe use a friend's PC and then burn to DVD-r or flash drive, or email it if the file(s) are small enough.
